Toronto Property Market and Real Estate Guide

(Toronto, Ontario - ON, Canada)

Picture of a district in TorontoCanada is home to breathtaking natural scenery combined with urban cities and friendly people, and it regularly draws visitors and expats to enjoy cities such as Toronto. The majority of people who move to Toronto, either short or long term, do so to soak up the winter sporting activities, as well as the fine summers and to enjoy its clean and safe nature.

Rentals and property here is highly sought after, partly due to the city's status as being the largest city in the country. The downtown area of Toronto is impressive and many people looking to rent will choose an apartment or condo close to the centre, in order to travel to and from work with ease.

The costs of buying and renting here are cheaper than in most large US cities and there are many ethnic neighborhoods located in the suburbs of Toronto, ideal for cheaper renting and purchases. The more expensive homes to buy boast locations close to the shores of Lake Ontario, while the cheaper purchases can be had away from the centre.

Renting Serviced Apartments

Renting in Toronto is often popular with people who have moved to the city for work and there is a good range of properties for rent, with the most costly found close to the main financial and business districts and the downtown area.

A typical deposit for a lease of 12 months on a serviced apartment is between two and three months' rent, and apartments usually come furnished. Yorkville and Casa Loma are especially affluent areas and some of the plusher condominiums are available here for more money than many of the centrally located apartments.

Buying Apartments and Houses

Many people who move to Toronto do so with their company as part of a work deal and after renting for the opening period of their stay, many choose to buy property here. Speak to an agent to find out how many properties you are entitled to buy as a foreigner as it varies depending on your visa.

Take note that owning property in Toronto does not allow you to gain residency here, and immigration and visa restrictions will not be affected if you decide to buy property. The low crime figures attract many investments and families often choose to buy in one of the suburbs, as prices here are far cheaper and you get around three times the space for less money against city centre properties.

Real Estate Agents

It is wise to use the services of a real estate agency for both buying and renting but local newspapers and the internet are also useful tools. Many agencies speak more than one language as Canada is home to many nationalities with French and English being the most commonly spoken languages.
